Periodico di Mineralogia is a journal devoted to publishing
original research and review papers in MINERALOGY, CRYSTALLOGRAPHY,
GEOCHEMISTRY, ORE DEPOSITS, PETROLOGY, VOLCANOLOGY and related
applied topics on ENVIRONMENT, ARCHAEOMETRY and CULTURAL HERITAGE.
Papers must be written in English. Submission
of a research article is understood to imply that both the whole
and the parts of the manuscript are original and not being considered
for publication elsewhere.
There is no page limitation on the length of articles
and number of tables and illustrations.
Manuscripts should be submitted as Adobe Acrobat (.pdf) file
to one of the Editors. They must be double spaced and all pages
must be numbered. The tables, drawings, and photographs should
be sent together with the manuscript saved in the same type
of file (.pdf).
The parts of the manuscript should appear in the following order:
1. Title; 2. NAME(S) and SURNAME(S);
3. ADDRESS(ES) OF AUTHOR(S); 4. ABSTRACT;
5. KEYWORDS; 6. TEXT; 7. LIST
OF REFERENCES; 8. TABLES AND TABLE CAPTIONS;
9. FIGURES AND FIGURE CAPTIONS.
1.
The title and any subtitle should be typed with the first word
and all proper names capitalised. Other words are lower case.
2. Name(s) should be typed with initial capital
letter and the rest as small capitals. To help identification
in indexing and abstracting, it is recommended that Authors
spell out one of their given names. Address(es) should be typed
below the Author(s) name(s) with only first letters capitalised
and without underlining or italics. If the corresponding Author
is different from the senior Author it should be specified together
with full mail and e-mail addresses for correspondence.
3. The abstract should be concise and of no
more than 500 words; it should include important numbers (e.g.,
thermodynamic data, temperature range, isotope range, etc.).
Citations must not appear in the abstract. A second summary
in Italian is recommended and should come after the English
abstract.
For non Italian Authors, translations of the
abstract into Italian can be arranged at the Editorial Office.
4. Key-words should be given, possibly following recommendations
of GeoRef.
5. Appropriate headings are used to break the text into
sections. First-order headings are centred and entirely capitalised,
with the first letter a large capital and the rest as small
capitals. Second-order headings are left-justified; first letter
and proper names are capitalised, with an italicised font. The
ordinary type sequence of arguments should include the following
sections: Introduction, Geological Background, Methods and Techniques,
Studied Materials, Results, Discussion, Conclusions. “Rock
names” must follow the recommendations of the IUGS, whereas
“Mineral names” must follow the recommendations
of the IMA. Helpful notes and discussions of the preparation
of manuscripts are found in “T.N. Irvine, D. Rumble III
and L.M. Irvine (1992) A writing guide for petrological (and
other geological) Manuscripts. Suppl. J. Petrol., Oxford University
Press, 1-46”.
6. All references quoted in the text, tables and figures,
and other parts of the paper, must be included in the list of
references. Citations should be placed in the appropriate position
in the paper and cited as follow: for one Author, by the surname
of the Author and the year of publication; for two Authors,
by the surname of both Authors, connected by “and”,
and the year of publication; for more than two Authors, by the
surname of the first Author followed by “et al.”,
italicised, and the year of publication. If citation is enclosed
in brackets, a comma separates the Author(s) by the year; in
the case of more citations they are separated by a semi-colon
and ordered first by year of publication and second by alphabetical
order. In a case were quotation is part of the sentence, only
the year is put in brackets and no comma is used. Two different
references, whose citation would be identical, are differentiated
by adding, after the year of publication, a lower-case “a”
and “b” in both the text and reference list.
The reference list is arranged in alphabetical order following
the surname of the first Authors. In the case of multiple Authors
they will be arranged following the further Authors; in the
case of identical numbers of Authors, the different citations
should be listed by year.
Styles of citations in the reference list for books, articles,
abstracts and proceedings are listed as follows:
a) BOOKS - surnames and initials of all the Authors
(in small capitals), year of publication (in brackets), full
title (italicised), publisher and place of publication, pages;
e.g., Cox K.G., Bell J.D. and Pankhurst R.J. (1979) - The interpretation
of igneous rocks. Chapman Hall, London, 450 pp.
b) ARTICLES in JOURNALS - surnames and initials of
all the Authors (in small capitals), year of publication (in
brackets), full title of the paper (italicised), name of the
journal, volume (boldface), first and last
page numbers; e.g., Lustrino L., Melluso L. and Morra V. (2000)
– The role of lower continental crust and lithosphere
mantle in the genesis of Plio-Pleistocene volcanic rocks from
Sardinia (Italy). Earth Planet. Sci.. Lett., 180,
259-270.
c) ABSTRACTS AND PROCEEDINGS OF CONFERENCES - surnames
and initials of all the Authors (in small capitals), year of
publication (in brackets), full title of the abstract or proceedings
(italicised), In: Official topic of the conference (in inverted
commas and italicised), host journal, volume (boldface), first
and last page numbers; e.g., Stevenson R.J., Dingwell D.B.,
Bagdassarov N.S. and Webb S.L. (1995) – Rheological modeling
of an emplacing rhyolite lava flow: implication for hazard assessment.
In: “Volcanoes in Town, an IAVCEI Conference on Volcanic
Hazards in Densely Populated Regions”, extended abstract
volume, Per. Mineral., 64, 275-276.

For the Tables, Author(s) should take into consideration
the limitations set by the size (14 cm × 18.5 cm) of the
“Periodico di Mineralogia”. If many data are presented,
Authors are invited to divide their data set into two or more
tables. Tables should be ready for 1:1 reproduction. For editing
their tables Authors should use “Times New Roman”
font with a size of 10 points. Footnotes of tables should be
listed apart and provided along with original and copies of
tables. Reference should be made in the text to each table.
A list of captions would be furnished at the end of tables.
8.
Illustrations (drawings and photographs) should respect the
page format of the Periodico di Mineralogia (14 cm × 18.5
cm). Lettering should also be as large as possible to allow
for eventual reduction without becoming illegible. Colour illustrations
can be accepted, and paid for by the Author(s) (see below).
Bar scales should be used rather than numeric scales, which
must be changed in the case of reduction. All illustrations
should be supplied in a camera-ready. References should be made
in the text to each figure. Each illustration must be accompanied
by a caption. A list of captions would be furnished at the end
of illustrations.
Only
one set of galley proofs will be sent to the Author(s)
to be checked only for typesetting/editing errors. The Author(s)
is (are) not expected to make changes or corrections that will
modify the accepted version of the manuscript. Changes should
be returned within four days to maurizio.salvati@uniroma.it.
